What is a Credenza – and why do I need one?

Credenzas have changed considerably in the last 7 centuries. Once a piece of dining room furniture to store crockery and glasses and as a base for serving buffet meals, now the term credenza is used to refer to a piece of office furniture.  A modern credenza is a low unit with doors or drawers, and is used for all the paraphernalia of a modern office, in particular AV equipment.  Take a look at our credenza in walnut and white:

With vented cupboards and cable management ports, it provides a stylish home for a computer, printers, even a DVD player!  Our design team have created the cupboards with the option of shelving to fit your requirements, or why not add racking to create some filing space?

Offices today require more storage space, as we still have quantities of paper filing in addition to the wide array of computer equipment needed in any self-respecting office: PC, printer, photocopier, scanner, fax machine and the rest.  But we also want our workspace to look professional, tidy and organised, and to reflect our company image.  Our credenzas work well as part of a suite of office furniture, together with our newly designed AV desks.  Each piece is made to order, so you can choose your finish to suit your corporate image. From walnut or oak, to a coloured finish to match your branding, the choice is yours!

The word credenza is an Italian word meaning ‘credence’ or ‘truth.’ The original use for this piece of furniture was as a buffet in the dining quarters of a kin
g, pope or
nobleman.  Food placed on the credenza was taste tested for poison before serving – so eating food from the credenza was the moment of truth!
Fortunately, we have moved on from the need for taste testers, but, just as in the 15th century, we still like our furniture to demonstrate something of our personal style.  Our design team at Lectern-s.co.uk are experienced in creating furniture to your requirements.  Whether it’s a sleek and stylish credenza in walnut with a solid bright white top, or a simple MDF lectern, we have office and AV furniture to suit all tastes and budgets.

New Product - AV Desk When Haywood Academy in Stoke-on-Trent started furnishing their new modern Sixth Form centre, they contacted us with a request for a bespoke solution.  The college wanted a set of multi-functional AV teaching desks that could house IT equipment and also be used as a desk.  But for space-saving and to allow the most flexible use of space, they wanted the desk to fold away when not in use. Starting from our AV lectern design, we levelled the top and reduced the height to standard desk height, creating a useful cupboard for IT equipment with space for a keyboa..
