means that cables can be hidden from view. We advised that a cable management port would be a useful addition. Once we had received the monitor arm, our design team found that a significant portion of the fitting hung below the top surface. We revised the position of the flat surface in relation to the sides, raising it so that the sides hung low enough to hide the monitor arm clamp, and aligning the surface facing the speaker along the lower side of the top, losing the 'lip' but creating a more pleasing shape. Finally, to keep control of all the unsightly cables, we cut a space in the lower shelf, so the cables feed through the cable management port at the top, and are neatly along the lectern support through the back of the shelf and to the floor.
UCL are very happy with the design, and appreciated our consultative approach to the design, confirming drawings and sizes with them as we went along, so the finished product was exactly as agreed. I'm sure the lecturers appreciate the clean simplicity of the design and the easy access to all their AV facilities - keyboard, monitor, light and mcirophone.
